DARBUKA- SPLIT HAND BASICS

The Split Hand Technique is a darbuka style that has appeared in Turkey in the last 20 years. The drummers use the individual fingers, attaining great speed and dexterity. Raquy has lived in Istanbul for the past several years learning this style and practicing with master drummers. This workshop will cover the basics of this style as well as the traditional rhythms and phrases.  A darbuka or dumbek is recommended.

DARBUKA-  SPLIT HAND -INTERMEDIATE

This workshop is for drummers who already have experience with the Darbuka and the Turkish Split Hand Style. Raquy will show the latest moves she has been learning from master drummers in Istanbul. The focus of this workshop is technique.

MIDDLE EASTERN RHYTHMS FOR ANY HAND DRUMMER
Participants can use any hand drum to explore Middle Eastern Rhythms, Odd rhythms, soloing techniques and accompaniment.  

1.5 hours.

RHYTHM FOR DANCERS WORKSHOP

This workshop explores time and rhythmic ideas that dancers can use in their performance.   We will learn how to identify a rhythm, and explore ways in which to play over them.  We will explore odd meters and how to approach the drum solo.  Participants can either use zills or any hand drum.
