18” x 24”

Darbuka Fantasy

This painting is a self portrait of Raquy in a fantastical setting that symbolizes her orginal music composition called “Fantasy for Darbuka”. You can find the Treble Clef, Bass Clef, Alto Clef and Percussion Clef shining in real gold representing the orchestral accompaniment of this piece. Inside the pillar you can see notes that the are the actual notes of darbuka part of the Fantasy. The treble clef turns into golden “rumi” motifs which spill out of the frame.

You can see henna decorating the hands and the henna-ed foot sticking out beneath the folds of the dress, and the golden hand necklace.

The clouds and surrounded greenery are painted with a technique called “noktalamak” which uses thousands of tiny dots.

The three pillars represent the 3 movements of the piece.

The original work is created with genuine gold, watercolors and gouache on 300 gsm acid-free archival cold press watercolor paper.
